Professor Paolo Palma is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and Head of the Clinical Immunology and Vaccinology Unit at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital IRCCS in Rome, Italy. He also holds a Full Professorship in Immunology at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. His research focuses on pediatric infectious diseases and primary immunodeficiencies, with a particular emphasis on systems immunology and vaccine responsiveness in early life. He has significantly contributed to the understanding of immune ontogeny and immune dysregulation in children, particularly in the context of HIV, inborn errors of immunity, and emerging infections. Professor Palma leads a multidisciplinary research group that integrates clinical and translational approaches with advanced molecular immunology. He is principal investigator on several international and EU-funded collaborative projects and serves on the steering committee of the Pediatric European Network for Treatment of AIDS and Infectious Diseases (PENTA-ID).He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial boards of several high-impact journals. A recognized leader in pediatric immunology, Professor Palma is also deeply committed to mentoring early-career scientists and fostering international partnerships to advance child health and immunological research globally.
