Martin Zach is a philosopher of science working on conceptual issues in immunology, especially how current knowledge is transforming our understanding of the immune system. His recent publications include work on immune metaphors and frameworks (Bio & Phil), asymptomatic infections (PhilMed), and the concept of antibodies (Immunol Rev). He received his PhD from Charles University in Prague while also gaining experience abroad, for example as a research visitor at the ImmunoConcept lab in Bordeaux. He runs the Prague Meetings in Philosophy of Science platform to organize events on biomedical research and philosophy of science. For his work he has been awarded the Prize of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Otto Wichterle Award. His other research interests include (biological) mechanisms, scientific understanding, naturalism and scientism.
